Jerry Jeudy Clarifies Viral Four-Finger Video, Says It Wasn’t a Browns QB Endorsement
Jerry Jeudy spent part of his Wednesday cleaning up a mess he didn’t think he made.
A clip from a TikTok livestream showed the Cleveland Browns wide receiver holding up four fingers, and social media ran with it fast. The number matches Deshaun Watson’s jersey. Watson is fighting Shedeur Sanders for the starting quarterback job in Cleveland. Fans connected the dots and decided Jeudy had picked a side.
He hadn’t.
According to ESPN, the video that circulated online was edited, with a visible skip between Jeudy raising his fingers and the moment a question appears on screen. Jeudy told reporters in Berea, Ohio, that a livestream viewer had actually asked about his daughter’s age, and his answer got clipped out of context.
“I threw out the four because she’s 4 years old,” Jeudy said, per ESPN. “I don’t know what they’re thinking in their mind, so I had to just go up there and … clear it up to them and know what really happened and not what the media portrayed it to be.”
Jeudy Says He Talked to Both Watson and Sanders Directly
The clip didn’t just spark fan arguments. It reportedly reached the Browns’ quarterback room itself. Jeudy said he went straight to Watson and Sanders once he saw how far the video had traveled, wanting to head off any hard feelings before they had a chance to form.
He also pushed back on the idea that he’d weigh in on the competition at all, pointing to how long he’s watched quarterback battles play out around the league.
“I’ve been in the league for seven years — at least five or six of the years, it’s all been a quarterback competition within those years,” Jeudy said Wednesday. “I think I’m mature enough and wise enough to not answer questions like that.”
He continued: “For everyone to believe that I would answer something like that on social media is kind of wild, but you got to understand this [is] where we’re in and understand how everybody’s viewing the quarterback competition in this room.”
Training camp settings amplify moments like this. A hallway comment or a livestream aside gets clipped, stripped of context, and turned into a headline before the player involved even knows it’s out there. Jeudy’s response suggests he’s aware of that dynamic and wanted to shut it down before it colored how Watson or Sanders viewed him heading into the season.
The Watson-Sanders Competition Remains Unresolved
Jeudy’s clarification doesn’t settle the bigger question hanging over Cleveland’s offense: who starts at quarterback. Watson and Sanders have been splitting first-team reps under head coach Todd Monken, who has not named a starter.
Jeudy and Sanders have history worth watching here. Last season, the two connected on a 60-yard touchdown in a 31-29 loss to the Tennessee Titans, but otherwise struggled to build consistency. Sanders, a fifth-round pick in 2025, threw seven touchdowns against 10 interceptions across 10 games as a rookie.
None of that history changes what Jeudy said Wednesday: he isn’t picking a side in public, and he wants that understood plainly rather than inferred from a four-second clip.
