Fernando Mendoza Explains How Kirk Cousins Is Mentoring Him at Raiders Camp

Raiders rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza says his relationship with veteran Kirk Cousins remains collaborative, not competitive, even after Cousins’ training-camp scuffle with edge rusher Maxx Crosby last week. Speaking with Rhett Lewis and Michael Robinson on NFL Network’s “Inside Training Camp,” Mendoza said he leans on Cousins’ experience in coach Klint Kubiak’s offense, which Cousins ran for three seasons in Minnesota. “I’ve picked up so much from Kirk,” Mendoza said, adding that Cousins often references old Vikings game tape when new concepts are installed.

Cousins and Crosby were both held out of practice Saturday after a heated exchange during a team period, per coach Klint Kubiak — an incident unrelated to Mendoza’s standing on the roster. Mendoza remains RS the No. 1 overall pick from the 2026 draft and is not currently competing for the starting job.
