2026 NFL FLAG Championships Bring Record Youth Turnout to ESPN Airwaves
Youth flag football just got its biggest stage yet. The 2026 NFL FLAG Championships presented by Toyota wrapped a four-day run at Grand Park Sports Campus in Westfield, Indiana, with games airing across ESPN’s full lineup of networks from Friday, July 24, through Sunday, July 26.
According to ESPN, a record 34 games aired across ESPN’s family of networks and digital platforms this year, with more than 350 teams of youth athletes from around the world descending on the Colts’ training camp site for the tournament.
The scale of the broadcast marks a real jump for the sport. Per ESPN Press Room, this is the network’s third year as founding media partner of the event, and coverage this time stretched across ABC, ESPN2, NFL Network, ESPN Deportes, Disney Channel and Disney XD β the most extensive linear footprint the championships have had.

What Was on the Field
ESPN’s cameras covered the entirety of the Boys’ Under-14 and Girls’ High School tournaments, from the Round of 16 through the championship games, according to NFL Media. For the first time, the network also carried semifinal and championship games from an international division, featuring teams from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Mexico, New Zealand, Panama, Puerto Rico and Spain.
The production leaned into technology usually reserved for Sunday afternoon NFL broadcasts. Referee cameras built into officials’ hats, mic’d-up players, overhead drone shots and shallow depth-of-field camera work all made appearances this year, per ESPN Press Room. It’s the kind of coverage a youth tournament rarely gets, and it’s part of a deliberate push to make flag football look and feel like the pro game.

Why the League Keeps Investing Here
The NFL has been building flag football’s profile for years, and this event is one of the clearer signs of where that effort is heading. Per the Bengals’ official site, there are now over 2,000 NFL FLAG leagues nationwide with more than 830,000 kids participating β a number that gives the championship weekend a much larger on-ramp than most youth sporting events.
Teams qualify by winning regional tournaments hosted by all 32 NFL clubs, so every team that reached Westfield had already beaten out a full slate of competition just to get there. That structure is part of why ESPN treats the weekend as a genuine sporting event rather than a novelty broadcast β the football on display is the product of a real, nationwide competitive ladder.
Looking Ahead
Registration for next year’s path to the championships is already moving. The Bengals, for instance, will host their regional tournament on Nov. 14, 2026, in Mason, Ohio, according to the team’s website, with early local registration opening July 27.
Families interested in getting involved can find a local league through NFLFlag.com, and access to the championship weekend itself runs through the free NFL OnePass registration system.
