Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen found time for a young fan between reps on a rain-soaked field Wednesday, as the team opened 2026 training camp at St. John Fisher University in Pittsford, New York.
The Bills’ official X account posted a short clip of Allen crouching down to greet a young boy on the sideline, captioned “Uncle @JoshAllenQB,” with the account tagging wide receiver DJ Moore’s handle, @idjmoore, alongside the NFL’s own account. The video shows Allen, still in pads, kneeling to the child’s eye level as teammates and staff looked on nearby. The Bills’ recap of the day’s practice embedded the same clip in its Day 1 coverage.

The moment came on a gloomy, rain-soaked opening day that head coach Joe Brady said was exactly what he wanted for his first camp running the show. According to the Bills, Brady called the wet conditions perfect for setting a tough tone: an 8:30 a.m. practice in the rain on Day 1.
On the field, the day belonged in part to Moore, Buffalo’s big offseason addition at receiver. Allen and Moore connected several times despite the weather, continuing chemistry the two built during spring practices. Moore’s best rep came during 11-on-11 work, when he dragged both feet for a 20-yard completion near the sideline. Allen was candid afterward about still building trust with his new target.
“Still learning him, just trying to get on the same page,” Allen said, per the team’s official recap.
Allen added that Wednesday was a productive start overall, even with rust to shake off after the offseason layoff.
“Thought we had a good, productive first day. Obviously, there’s always things you want to clean up. But I loved how the guys were flying around today,” Allen said.
Off the field, moments like the one with the young fan have become something of a pattern for Allen at camp over the years — brief, unscripted interactions with kids and families that show up on the team’s social channels alongside the practice footage. This year’s version arrived with a personal thread attached, given the tag to Moore’s account and the “Uncle” framing in the caption, though neither Allen nor the Bills has offered further detail publicly on the child’s connection to Moore’s family.
Buffalo also handled a roster note on the eve of camp, placing receiver Tyrell Shavers on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list as he continues recovering from a torn ACL suffered in January’s AFC Wild Card win over Jacksonville. Shavers still counts toward the 91-man roster but won’t practice while on PUP. Edge rusher Michael Hoecht, who tore his Achilles in November, was cleared to return to the field.
The Bills continue camp this week in Pittsford as Brady’s first season as head coach gets underway, with Allen and Moore’s on-field rapport likely to remain one of the offense’s top storylines heading into the fall.
