Travis Kelce had one of the busiest offseasons of any NFL player in recent memory. He didn’t let it slow him down, according to Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, who addressed his star tight end’s conditioning heading into training camp.
Speaking with NFL Network on Tuesday, Reid was asked directly about Kelce’s physical shape after a summer that included a headline-grabbing wedding. Reid wasn’t buying the online chatter about a “dad bod.”
“He came back in good shape. I know everybody’s out there saying he’s got the dad bod and all this stuff, but he looks the same to me as he’s always looked, and he’s just playing like crazy,” Reid said, according to HITC.
Reid didn’t stop there. He praised Kelce’s focus and leadership as the 36-year-old tight end enters his 14th NFL season, all of them with Kansas City.
“He’s doing a nice job with everything, focused in and ready to go, and I appreciate that. When you have somebody who has been here 14 years and wants to be out there for every snap, he’s wired to play hard, play aggressive, and not be stopped. That kind of attitude is contagious.”
Fans on social media had spent the prior week debating Kelce’s physique after early training camp clips circulated online. Some of that reaction stemmed from camera angles and workout footage that later practice video seemed to contradict, according to the Mirror US. Reid had already addressed it once before, telling reporters at Missouri Western State University on July 29 that Kelce “stayed in shape” and joked that “he did a lot of dancing at his wedding,” per Kansas City Chiefs Community.

The “dancing” wasn’t a small event. Kelce married pop superstar Taylor Swift on Friday, July 3, at Madison Square Garden in New York City, with celebrations stretching into the early hours of the next morning. The ceremony was officiated by Adam Sandler, with Swift’s brother Austin serving as “man of honor” and Kelce’s brother Jason standing in as best man, according to CBS News.
Reid attended the wedding himself, giving him a firsthand look at the celebration he later referenced in his training camp joke about Kelce’s conditioning.
Guests reportedly included Chiefs teammates and coaches alongside a wide range of celebrities. The couple wore custom Christian Dior Haute Couture, and outside the arena, a jumbotron flashed “JUST&T MARRIED!” to crowds gathered on the street, according to CBS News.

The backdrop to all of this is a Chiefs team trying to bounce back from a rough year. Kansas City finished 6-11 in 2025, missing the playoffs for the first time since Patrick Mahomes became the starting quarterback. Kelce reportedly weighed retirement after that season before deciding to return for one more run, per Athlon Sports.
He’s not walking into a diminished role. Kelce caught 76 passes for 851 yards and five touchdowns across all 17 games last season, still one of Mahomes’ most trusted targets even as his overall numbers have dipped from his peak years.
