Terrion Arnold’s free-agent tour made a stop in New Orleans, but it didn’t end in a contract. The former Detroit Lions cornerback left his visit with the Saints without a deal, according to Yahoo Sports, with NFL insider Jordan Schultz reporting that the New York Giants are the next stop on Arnold’s search for a team.
New Orleans hosted Arnold for a workout this week, following a visit with the Seattle Seahawks and an earlier session with the Houston Texans. Saints head coach Kellen Moore made clear afterward that the team was still in information-gathering mode, not decision mode.

That “outside of football part” is doing a lot of work. Arnold is facing eight felony charges — four counts of kidnapping and four counts of armed robbery with a firearm or deadly weapon — connected to a February incident in the Tampa area. According to ESPN, police say Arnold coordinated and directed associates to lure three men to an apartment, where they were pistol-whipped, held at gunpoint and robbed. Arnold was not alleged to be present for the assault itself.
The Lions released Arnold in late June, days after he turned himself in to the Orient Road Jail in Hillsborough County. A Florida judge set his bond at $1 million and ordered him to stay at his home in Tallahassee except for NFL-related work, including team visits and workouts, according to NFL.com.
Arnold has denied any wrongdoing. Through representatives, he issued a statement asserting his innocence and pointing to what his team describes as unreliable testimony from co-defendants with incentive to shift blame, according to CBS Sports.
Arraignment Looms as Teams Keep Circling
The timing adds urgency to every one of these visits. Arnold is scheduled for an arraignment hearing Thursday, Aug. 13, before a judge in Tampa — the formal start of court proceedings on the felony charges, per NBC Sports. A conviction on the kidnapping and armed robbery counts could carry a life sentence.
That’s the backdrop for every team currently kicking the tires. The Colts, Jets, Seahawks and Texans have all shown documented interest at various points, and the Saints’ pass defense — fourth in the NFL last season at 179.2 yards allowed per game — gives New Orleans a real football reason to keep looking, even with the legal cloud hanging over any potential signing.
New Orleans has its own need at the position. Backup corner Isaac Yiadom has struggled through training camp, and reserve Rejzohn Wright has been in and out of practice with an unspecified injury. The Saints worked out three other defensive backs last week and signed none of them before bringing in Arnold.
What Arnold Brings on Tape
Whatever team eventually signs Arnold will be betting on real production. Over 24 games with Detroit, the former first-round pick out of Alabama recorded 91 tackles, 18 passes defended and an interception. The Lions traded up five spots in the 2024 draft to select him, and defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard has said publicly that Arnold had the tools to develop into a No. 1 cornerback.

None of that changes what happens Thursday. Arnold’s football future is now tied directly to a Tampa courtroom as much as it is to any team’s evaluation board. Until the legal picture clears up, teams appear content to keep gathering information rather than commit to a roster spot — a pattern that’s now repeated in Houston, Seattle and New Orleans, and is about to play out again in New York.
