The Jets are turning toward their past for inspiration for some new headgear.
New York unveiled a new alternate white helmet Tuesday morning, debuting a white shell paired with a white facemask and a single chrome-green stripe down the center — an inversion of the color scheme on their usual green helmet. It gives the Jets a league-leading five helmet options for 2026, according to SportsLogos.net, which noted the reveal confirmed its own reporting on the helmet from back in April.
The design will anchor a full “White Out” look — white helmet, white jersey, white pants — when New York hosts the Green Bay Packers in Week 2 for their home opener at MetLife Stadium on Sept. 20. The team billed it as a new addition to their locker rather than a full uniform overhaul.
A Sleeker Take on a Familiar Color
The Jets last wore a white helmet as part of the throwback uniforms first introduced in 2024, most recently seen in their 2025 season finale against the Buffalo Bills. Those helmets carried the traditional green-white-green center stripe and a gray facemask — a callback to the 1960s Jets team that stunned the heavily favored Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III.
This new version skips the throwback route entirely. Instead of the old double-striped design fans are used to, the Jets went with a single green stripe and their current wordmark logo on each side, per SI’s breakdown of the design. It’s a cleaner, more modern look built off their standard helmet shell rather than a period-specific throwback.
The closest recent comparison is a helmet Jets fans might not immediately remember: quarterbacks Ryan Fitzpatrick and Sam Darnold each wore a white helmet with a white facemask for a single game apiece, in 2016 and 2018. That one-off look used the team’s standard shell with the facemask simply swapped from green to white — a similar idea to what’s debuting in 2026, just refined.
Part of a Growing Uniform Rotation
New York has reshaped its look repeatedly over the past several years. The franchise moved away from its late-1990s uniform set in 2019, adopting a modern design with the city name across the chest and tapered shoulder stripes. After the retro “Sack Exchange” throwbacks proved a hit with fans, the Jets brought that classic look back full-time in 2024 and added an all-black alternate to round out the closet.
Per the NFL’s uniform rules, teams can carry up to three helmet shells in rotation, and SportsLogos.net reports the Jets will stay within that limit by swapping decals and facemasks on their existing white throwback shell rather than adding a fourth physical helmet.
The team also introduced a new alternate logo alongside the helmet — a green jet wing set inside the silhouette of a football, using negative white space, according to Sports Illustrated.

Several current Jets appeared in the team’s reveal video promoting the new look, including running back Breece Hall, quarterback Geno Smith, offensive lineman Olu Fashanu, linebacker Kiko Mauigoa, cornerback Brandon Stephens, safety Andre Cisco, and wide receivers Isaiah Williams and Adonai Mitchell, Newsweek reported.
The team has not said whether the white helmet will appear in games beyond the Week 2 opener. For now, its only confirmed appearance is the “White Out” date against Green Bay.
